When translating a sentence from English into Italian, you can come across many "false friends".
This can happen also when you translate from other languages, e.g. Spanish or French, but here I would like to focus only on the false friends of this specific translation pair. Many English words resemble Italian words, so we have to pay attention in order to translate them appropriately. Here below you will find a list of some false friends that are often translated in the wrong way, especially in audiovisual and marketing translation: DECADE: ✔️ Decennio (10 years) ❌ Decade (10 days) TERRIFIC: ✔️ Magnifico ❌ Terrificante (frightening) DELUSION: ✔️ Illusione ❌ Delusione (disappointment) CAMERA: ✔️ Videocamera/Fotocamera ❌ Camera (room) RUMOR: ✔️ Diceria, pettegolezzo ❌ Rumore (noise) DECADENT (a DESSERT): ✔️ Godurioso ❌ Decadente (in a state of moral decline) ASSUMPTION: ✔️ Supposizione, presupposto ❌ Assunzione (hiring) Are there any other false friends that you cannot stand? Please let me know!
