The audiovisual industry attracts many professionals and many aspiring translators. One thing that not everyone thinks about, however, is the need to know well the techniques and history of this industry.
In my opinion, a fundamental and often ignored requirement is to have a thorough knowledge of the history of cinema. Who were the first directors? How has cinema evolved over the years? How has the audience changed?
If we don't know the medium and its peculiarities, it's difficult for us to translate films and TV series in the best possible way, not to mention the cinematographic references present in many programs or quizzes.
