🎉 Today is Labour Day. Yet I open my Facebook home page and I see, in a group of which I am a member, a rather singular request. A video game developer is looking for volunteer translators to translate a game into various languages. 💻 My first reaction, of course, was to get nervous. I do this job for a living, not (just) for fun. I find it unacceptable that some pseudo-translator offers to work for free, especially on such an important occasion. 💶 Okay, there are some cases where working for free makes sense. We can translate videos that will benefit other people, we can contribute to enhancing monuments or other places, we can help those who need it most. In short, lending our knowledge and skills without earning money sometimes makes sense. 📆 But when a professional is asked to invest precious time "for glory", I get very nervous.
